With only a few weeks left to go before the 2015 Palma Superyacht Show opens its gates, the reasons for attending are multiplying. The list of participating yachts and exhibitors is impressive, the number of berths and stands has increased and the destination itself is developing into an international hot spot.
The capital city of the Balearic island of Mallorca is well known for its excellent infrastructure, welcoming residents, vibrant nightlife and fantastic shopping. Palma has it all and it comes as no surprise that the city has recently been recognised as the overall winner of the “Best Places to Live in the World” in a survey conducted by the Sunday Times. If one adds the fact that it is also the centre for brokerage sales of large sailing yachts in the Mediterranean and one of the most dynamic refit destinations in Europe, Palma is simply the ideal location for a brokerage and charter show of excellence.
Hannelore Schmitz of Dahm International sums it up by saying “With every edition, the Palma Superyacht Show is more and more becoming one of the most important superyacht in-water exhibitions worldwide! This fact is also attributed to the perfect location in one of the most frequented superyacht hubs in the Mediterranean!”
The Palma Superyacht Show, conducted in partnership with MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association, is one of the few shows run by the industry for the industry and provides a platform for brokerage and charter yachts above 24 metres. Since its debut in 2013, the Show has flourished and indications are that this year will be the best to date both in terms of participating yachts and exhibitors.
Patricia Bullock of Network Marine Consultants, comments “Thanks to the initiative of an association of Palma-based superyacht brokers, ongoing support from MYBA and its clever season-opening placement on the calendar, the Palma Superyacht Show has developed rapidly into a genuine success story. Considering that in 2014 we processed 32 charter licences, and for 2015 we have a target of 80 yachts ranging between 24 and 65 metres, we expect this year’s stand to be even busier.”
Jens Ploch of Pantaenius Spain says "The Palma Superyacht Show has placed the Mallorcan industry back on the international map and is the perfect rounding off to the European boat show season. For many, this can be the best and perhaps last opportunity to view a large selection of yachts and decide on the upcoming seasons plans. We are delighted to be part of it and to advise our clients on site with regards to their insurance requirements." Nautipaints, longstanding standing specialists in finishing and refinishing, are also looking forward to exhibiting at this year’s Show. According to Ruth Tzumy “Palma is the epicentre for Super Yachts in Europe, there isn’t anywhere else like it: the Palma Super Yacht Show is going to be a meeting of the crème de la crème of the industry”.
An estimated 36.000 people visited the Show last year and this number is expected to increase. Visitors to the 2015 Palma Superyacht show, which will run from the 30th of April to the 4th of May, will have the opportunity to inspect and appraise a number of stunning yachts.
The long list includes the elegant ELEONORA (a 49m sailing yacht designed by Herreshoff, the company that designed many America's Cup yachts at the beginning of the 1900’s),the 43m motor yacht RUBECANN, the TWILIGHT (at 38.14m it is the largest OYSTER YACHT ever built) and the eye catching former rescue tug MASTIFF!
And for those with a discerning palate, the Blue Café by Marc Fosh will be there to ensure that culinary expectations are “simply” exceeded.
The Palma Superyacht Show is an experience not to be missed!
